The first episode of “Algorithmic Justice (Algoritmik Adalet)” the new programme series by Istanbul Bar Association’s Information Law Commission was presented by Att. Celil Aktaş and Att. Kübra Keskin Ökmen. In the programme, the use of artificial intelligence in the legal profession and its pitfalls were discussed. The liability of lawyers who submitted fake case law created by generative artificial intelligence tools to courts was discussed with several examples from the United States and the United Kingdom. The professional rules of the Bar Associations in these countries regarding the use of artificial intelligence were also addressed along with artificial intelligence hallucination and other professional errors arising from the use of generative artificial intelligence. Then, the disciplinary and criminal liability of lawyers in the case of a similar scenario in Turkey was discussed in light of the relevant articles of the Turkish Penal Code and the professional rules of the Union of Turkish Bar Associations.
