Increasing digitalization in all areas from public services to the private sector has made cyber security a critical issue for contemporary society. Therefore, the lawmaker enacted the Cyber Security Law No. 7545, in order to form an umbrella legislation on cybersecurity in Turkey. While this law stipulates the basic principles and lays out fundemental definitions of cybersecurity, such as critical infrastructure, it also contains controversial provisions, especially in terms of criminal law.

The Cyber Security Law No. 7545 was discussed by experts at the event “The New Legal Basis of Cyber Security in Turkey”, organized jointly by the Istanbul Bar Association’s Information Law Commission and Personal Data Protection Commission, with the first session moderated by Att. Celil Aktaş. You can watch the recording of our event on the YouTube channel of the Istanbul Bar Association: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTk9rpLYPWg
